Rolex uses 904L steel for its steel watch cases. 904L is usually reserved for the chemical industry, where maximum resistance against corrosion is essential. 904L marries perfectly with the other precious metals used by Rolex. A super alloy, 904L is extremely tough and highly polishable.

Almost as much work goes into creating the Rolex bracelet as the Rolex movement. Its more than 100 moving parts are conceived and crafted simultaneously to ensure perfect homogeneity. Edges are sculpted and smoothed for comfort. A new, redesigned clasp makes for easier opening and closing. The length can now be personally adjusted, providing an even more perfect fit. But only after it is tested under some of the most extreme conditions does it earn the right to become a Rolex bracelet.

The height of precision, the self-winding Oyster movement is entirely engineered and manufactured by Rolex. Robust and reliable, every movement guarantees long-term high performance and is an officially certified Swiss chronometer.

Very few people in the world are allowed inside a Rolex Oyster. Only authorised Rolex retailers have the necessary know-how and equipment to gain access. Hermetically sealed to the case with, for the technically minded, a torque of five newton metres, the back of any Oyster, as this Oyster case back shows, creates an environment that protects the movement from shocks, pressure, dust and water.

The four simple words SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED mean that the movement of this watch has endured 15 days and nights of testing by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres. To receive COSC certification, a watch must demonstrate extreme precision in a variety of positions and temperatures – the standard of quality for every Rolex Chronometer.

Rolex invented the first waterproof watch, the Oyster, in 1926. Each Oyster is waterproof down to 100 metres/330 feet and is submitted to rigorous testing to ensure waterproofness beyond its guaranteed depth. Models created for divers symbolise the supremacy of Rolex waterproofness at even greater depths. Rolex watches have conquered seas and oceans. A strong and privileged association with water is evident throughout the collection.
